How to manage back to school feelings

Back to school worries

How to manage back to school feelings for children for whom school worries can seem really big and difficult, whether it’s a new school or new class or a change in uniform or friends. For some children it can be difficult to identify and talk about these big emotions, in the same way it can be difficult for adults too.

We’ve curated and created a range of tools to help children and their caregivers understand and talk about these feelings and emotions.

  • Emotions cards and posters – ideal for young children to begin to identify and understand feelings in themselves and in others
  • Mind cards for kids – with some great mindfulness activities for children to help them work through their feelings and begin to positively
  • Worry notes – a place to write down worries, either for themselves or to share with a caregiver, when they might find it hard to talk about them
  • Breathing cards – breathing techniques to help calm the mind and body when things feel a little overwhelming
  • Mindfulness nature walk cards – ideal for finding time outside in nature and focusing on the things around them.

Learning a range of techniques to help children understand and process their emotions, can help them to open up and talk about these with others and to get support with how this affects them day to day. Sometimes all that’s needed is a tool to open the door to further conversations and support.
