Wildlife Guardian

Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust

Since the inception of Eco-Able we became Wildlife Guardians for Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust. I was really keen that we did something tangible, so that we could see the direct impact that our regular financial donation makes to our local wildlife and natural environments. Whilst I do receive updates about what the Trust is working on, I haven’t ever shared them with all of our customers and blog readers. I’m thrilled that the Philanthropy Coordinator has responded to my recent email by sending me a comprehensive round up of the projects that our donations as Guardians have contributed to. I hope you enjoy reading about these projects and seeing the difference donations can make. We can only support great causes like this through your support of our small business. Nature matters, now more than ever and I’m really proud of the difference we’re making together.

Ongoing projects at Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust

“One of the most exciting examples of the difference you make is our ongoing success in sustaining the rare large blue butterfly in Gloucestershire. Your funds pay for the dedicated staff and volunteers who work hard to control scrub, allowing cows and ponies to graze the land. This grazing is crucial as it maintains the perfect grassland habitats for the large blue, along with other incredible species like the grizzled skipper butterfly and beautiful orchids. Our efforts at Daneway Banks are a shining example of this success, and we’re continually working to connect these vital natural areas.

Another area where your support has made a tangible difference is at Siccaridge Wood. Thanks to successful coppicing efforts, plants like the delicate lily of the valley are thriving, and the habitat has encouraged the beautiful pearl-bordered fritillary butterfly.

Furthermore, your Wildlife Guardian contributions are instrumental in our nature reserve condition monitoring program, headed up by our brilliant team led by Juliet. This team surveys our land and gathers crucial evidence that guides our entire approach to conservation. It helps us know if we are doing the right things in the right places.

We recently learned a fascinating lesson through this monitoring at Barrow Wake looking at our musk orchids. By consistently monitoring them over time, we’ve observed that they are gradually moving down the slope. If this trend continues, they’ll eventually move outside of our nature reserve into unmanaged land, where they could disappear. This vital monitoring means we know exactly when and where to intervene to ensure these precious plants remain safe within the reserve. It highlights just how critical it is to give all our special species dedicated attention, and your funding helps make this essential work possible.

Thank you, from all of us at GWT, for being a Wildlife Guardian. Your generosity truly makes a difference, allowing us to protect and cherish Gloucestershire’s wildlife for generations to come.” Tina Outlaw, Philanthropy Coordinator, Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust.
